The Donlan family grew up in St. Celestine’s parish in Elmwood Park. All four children of Joe and Mary Donlan graduated from Mother Theodore Guerin and Holy Cross; Maureen (MTG ’77), Brian (HC’78), Terry (HC’80) and Tom (HC’81). Three of Joe and Mary’s grandchildren graduated from Guerin Prep, Terry and Nancy’s sons; Patrick (GP’09), Sean (GP’11) and Ryan (GP’14). Joe Donlan, the patriarch of the family was on the board of directors of the Sisters of Providence and Mary Donlan, the matriarch of the family was both a regular volunteer at MTG and also worked in the attendance office at Holy Cross. In addition to the Donlan's immediate family, two of their aunts, Pat Nolan and Nancy Lonis were secretaries to Sr. Marie Ellen for many years and Pat Nolan also returned to the school as a member of MTG’s development office. Six of the family’s first cousins also graduated from Mother Guerin and Holy Cross; Mike, Julie and Kevin Nolan and Paul, Chris and Katie Lonis. There were also numerous cousins from Mary Donlan’s family (the Carmody’s) who were at the schools including, Mary's first cousin, Kitty Hehir who was a long time teacher at Mother Guerin. At Maureen’s graduation in 1977 there were four Carmody cousins who graduated; Maureen Donlan, Anne Lynch, Maureen Manning and Nancy Callahan. The mass was said by Monsignor Jack Dalton, another of Mary Donlan’s first cousins and uncle of Maureen Manning and Nancy Callahan.

Patrick, Sean and Ryan Donlan received numerous awards and honors while attending Guerin Prep, including the Spirit of Holy Cross award, Senior Prom King, and Illinois State Scholar. Maureen was a past member of the alumni and school boards at Mother Guerin and Guerin Prep and Brian (Tracey), Terry (Nancy), and Tom (Alison) have all been long time volunteers and board members at local schools and educational and community programs. .
