Recognizing Outstanding Student
Ideas and Accomplishments

Kudoes go to Senior Rachel Holowicki who found young cancer patient Noah on Facebook and helped to make his “Make a Wish” come true by asking the members of the Guerin Prep community to make Noah a Christmas card.  She also collected for the “Make a Wish” foundation.

…and to Senior Amanda Delgado who learned of the Invisible Children project and invited those young people to make a presentation to the Guerin Prep community. The project is in response to the tragedy in Uganda, revolving around Africa's longest running war, where children have become the victims and the weapons. Rebel armies, known as the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), have been abducting children and using them as troops while they wage war against the Ugandan government.  The group’s visit to Guerin raises awareness while they also collected signatures and money to assist their desire to rescue these children.

…and to the Guerin Prep Student Council for sponsoring a food drive this fall that helped to stock the St. Celestine food pantry.

…and to Senior Adam Larson  who was named a Commended Student in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program.  Commended students place among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2010 competition by taking the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.  Adam is one of about 34,000 commended students throughout the nation who were recognized for their exceptional academic promise.

…and to Monica Lisak, Sara Turlan and Judy Wrobel who participated in Triton College’s Youth Leadership Academy.  They were invited to participate because of their work in the GP Mentoring program.  The workshops included a photo scavenger hunt and sessions on dining etiquette, emotional/social learning and building effective teams.

…and to all students who ever worked for Kiddieland Amusement Park, which unfortunately closed this fall.  Mary Rynes who recruited Guerin (and Mother Guerin) students for employment recounted that many of her personal favorite employees were from Guerin.  Rynes singled out Alexandra Miletta not only as an outstanding employee but also for writing an article about Kiddieland for “The Voyager” that offered a rare glimpse of what it meant to be a part of the Kiddieland Family.  Said Rynes, “Our deepest thanks to Alex, who we will always remember with great affection and to all at Guerin for mentoring a journalist, in our opinion, like no other.

…and to the many Guerin Prep students who signed the SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) board during Red Ribbon week vowing to be drug free.
