Winners of Special Scholarships
THERESE MARIE CUNY SCHOLARSHIP COMMUNICATIONS ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
At right, the newly named winners of the Therese Marie Cuny Communication Arts Scholarships celebrate their success with Ms. Christine Speiser '69 (far right), who established the scholarship to honor tthe first drama teacher at Mother Theodore Guerin High School and to encourage the development of communications skills in Guerin Prep students. These five juniors were among 12 finalists vying for the tuition scholarships and each had to make a 10-minute presentation on a topic of their choosing.
From left are Crystal Vargas, $1,000; Brittany Jurasz, $1,000; Megan Romberg, Full Tuition; Katarzyna Cukier, $3,000; and Ariana Marcucci, $500. In addition to these tuition awards, Ms. Speiser presented each finalist with a gift bag that included a candle, a journal, a book specially chosen for that student and a $50 gift certificate to Old Navy.
Other Scholarship Recipients
CARMEN D. & ANGIE FORTE ITALIAN HERITAGE
SCHOLARSHIP - Two awards of $1,000 each to students of Italian ancestry, honoring the Fortes, long-time supporters of Guerin Prep and its foundation school. This year's winners are Giuseppe Lestingi and Amara Loconti.
The Alfred J. Coulombe Jr. Scholarship - anaward of $500, and this year an additional award of $250 to students studying French, honoring the spirit of Alfred
Coulombe, father to three Mother Guerin graduates.
At left, Junior Marcie Wiklanski, the $500 recipient, and Sophomore Victoria Williamson ($250 recipient) are pictured with Rita Coulombe and two of her daughters, Charisse and Collette. Guerin Prep's French teacher Ms. Valerie Krock was also on hand to celebrate her students' accomplishments.
HAROLD & GENEVIEVE KENNING SCHOLARSHIP -
$1,000 award to a graduate of St. Celestine Grade School in memory
of Harold & Genevieve Kenning, established by their children. This year's winner is Dan Laske.
CZESLAW MICHALCZUK POLISH HERITAGE
SCHOLARSHIP- $750 to a current student, honoring Czeslaw Michalczuk, the father of
a Mother Theodore Guerin High School alumna. This year's winner is Joanna Nguyen.
SISTER GERTRUDE SMITH SCHOLARSHIP -
Twenty awards of $1,000 each in memory of S. Gertrude Smith, SP, established with a special gift from the Sisters of Providence. This year's winners are Gypsy Lee Belinda, Olivia Binkowski, Natalie Carrasco, Gina Cline, Olivia Diaz, Taylor Greene, Natalie Gwizdz, Brittany Jurasz, Matthew Klich, Amara Loconti, Diana Lukasik, Natalie Nguyen, Patrick O'Brien, Daniela Rodriguez, Jasmine Rodriguez, Margaret Rudd, Alina Thomas, Crystal Vargas, Danielle Wade, Dominica Walczak and Dominika Wroblewska.
.BETTY WALSCHEID SCHOLARSHIP -
Two awards of $1,500 each, in memory of Betty Walscheid, alumna and
faculty member of Mother Guerin for science students, established by her family and friends. This year's winners are Andrea Bielicki, Amara Loconti, Megan Romberg and Dominika Wroblewska.
