Fitzgerald, Noreen
Ms. Fitzgerald began teaching at Mother Guerin High School in 1972 and now directs the department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Guerin Prep. In this capacity, she teaches all the Family and Consumer Science classes offered. She is a graduate of Mount Mary College with a B.A. in Home Economics Education. She is a member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Science.

Booth, Karen
Ms. Karen Booth began at Guerin Prep in 2006 after serving 23 years as teacher and administrator at Notre Dame High School for Girls, Chicago. She received the Archdiocese of Chicago Heart of School award for leadership in 2005.
In addition to teaching Honors Government, Citizen Politics and World History courses, Booth serves as a coach for freshman volleyball. She has a B.A. from De Paul University, Chicago, plus graduate credit hours in history from DePaul. She has also earned credits from Oxford University, Oxford, England, and Harvard University, Cambridge. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in administrative leadership.
Shea, Katherine
Katie Shea is a recent graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign where she earned a B.A. in history with a minor in secondary education. During 2005-2006, she worked as a substitute teacher at St. Tarcissus Elementary School, Chicago. She teaches U.S. History, Issues in Law, Social Science Essentials and Human Behavioral Studies. She won the Archdiocese of Chicago Heart of the School award for technology in 2008.
De Salvo, Nicolette
Ms. DeSalvo teaches U.S History, Cultural Geography, and Issues in Law. She joined the Guerin Prep staff in 2004 after graduating from Providence College with a B.A. in history/secondary education. She is the junior class moderator, coordinator of Kairos Retreat and a member of the Student Life Committee. She is currently taking classes at Dominican University seeking a master's degree in Educational Administration and a Type-75 Certificate.
Jaworski, Thomas
This is Mr. Jaworski’s 6th year at Guerin Prep. Prior to this, he taught for three years at neighboring Holy Cross High School. He currently teaches Economics, Citizen Politics and Pyschology. He has a B.A. in History from the University of Illinois, Chicago. Mr. Jaworski also serves as the head Golf Coach and the Chess Club moderator. He has a master's degree in school counseling and works with the Nolan Scholars Program as an academic advisor.
Stein, Thomas
In addition to his duties as the dean of the Global Studies Division, Mr. Stein, who started teaching at Mother Guerin in `97, teaches AP US History & AP Government. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from Loyola University, Chicago, an M.S. and Ph.D. in Education from Pacific Western University, Los Angeles, (now California Miramar University). He serves as an adjunct faculty member for St. Mary's University, Winona, Minn., under the Program for Advanced College Credit offered at Guerin Prep.
Stein has also been part of the continuing education program at Triton College and on the summer school faculty at Highland Park High School. He has served as a curriculum writer and faculty reviewer for DePaul University's "We The People" NEH grant proposal. In 2003 he won a Heart of the School Teacher Recognition Award from the Archdiocese of Chicago. He is the moderator of the Debate Club and the head varsity softball coach. Stein is also a member of the Principal's Advisory Board.
Activities
Regular activities of the Social Science Department include field trips to Cook County Court, participation in D.A.R. good citizenship contest and American Legion's "What it means to be an American” essay contest.
In year’s past, mock elections were held and eligible seniors were registered to vote. Also an election judge enlisted GCP students to work in the general election.
In the past the department has been involved in Washington Workshops.

Maher, Jane
Ms. Jane Maher began teaching at Guerin Prep in 2006. Prior to coming to Guerin, she enjoyed a 27-year career as religion teacher at Immaculate Heart of Mary High School, in Westchester, where she served as both religion and history teacher and chaired the religion department.
She holds master’s degrees in educational administration from Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, and religious studies from Mundelein College, Chicago. She teaches Scripture, Church History, Comparative and World Religions. She also works with the RCIA program at St. Pascal Parish.
Majewski, Eugene
Mr. Majewski currently teaches Church History, Sacraments and Introduction to Old Testament and New Testament. He has also served as campus minister for two years at Guerin. Mr. Majewski earned a B.A. in sociology and has done graduate studies in theology at St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri.
Manley, S. Kay
Sister Kay began her teaching career as a teacher of Theology at Guerin in 1993. She teaches Introduction to Scripture and Sexuality and Hebrew and Christian Scriptures. Sister Kay has earned a B. S. in Education, a M.S. in Education and a M.A. in Theology.
Her previous experience includes 10 years as an elementary school principal in California after seven years of teaching in elementary grades in Indiana, Illinois and California and seven years of teaching special education and being the coordinator of Special Education in California. During the 2007-2008 school year, Guerin School Family surprised Sr. Kay with a wonderful day of 50 year jubilee celebration.
Guerin Prep and Sr. Kay were awarded the opportunity for an eight day intensive study trip to Israel during the summer of 2009. She visited many Biblical sites and was introduced to Israel.
Smith, Sister Janice
Sister Janice is Guerin Prep's campus minister, and she also teaches theology. She joined the Guerin Prep staff for the 2007-2008 school year, after completing a master’s of theological studies from the Franciscan School of Theology at the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, Calif. She also has a master’s degree in Classical Languages from The Ohio State University and a bachelor’s in Ancient Studies from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
She has been the director of adult faith formation for San Francisco Solano Parish in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. Prior to joining the Sisters of Providence, she worked for Hewlett-Packard, first as a technology instructor and then as a district manager for the customer education division.
Sr. Janice also accompanied Sr. Kay for the eight day intensive study trip to Israel.
Westley, Thomas
A theology teacher since 1998 at neighboring Holy Cross High School prior to joining Guerin Prep in 2004, Mr. Westley has been a Youth Minister in the Archdiocese of Chicago since 1991. Mr. Westley earned both a B.A. in English/Theology and a M.A. in Curriculum/Instruction from Loyola University, Chicago. He has also taught at Our Lady Help of Christians Elementary School and Josephinum High School.
Mr. Westley teaches the junior-senior level theology classes and serves as the moderator for Guerin Prep's African-American Club.
Activities
The Theology Department of Guerin Prep is a group of professional Catholic educators dedicated to the teaching mission of the Church; to proclaim the message of the Gospels, to create community and to offer service. Guerin Prep is unique among area high schools in the diversity of its theology program. It is also one of the few schools to provide four years of religious education.
The goals of the Theology Department are to:
+nurture the faith development of students,
+impart a knowledge of the teachings of the Catholic faith,
+encourage students to discover their own personal relationship with God,
+aid students in developing their gifts of mind, body and spirit to become whole and holy women,
+instill in students an appreciation of the rich heritage of Scripture and Tradition, and
+challenge students to form a Christian response to local needs and global issues.
