From the Alumni Council
As of June 1, 2009, we have a complete alumni board to help us succeed in that mission. I will continue to be the Alumni Board President, while Cindy Miller Class of 1993 will be Alumni Board Vice-President, Kathy Halvax Class of 1967 will be Alumni Board Secretary, Christopher Doyle HC Class of 2000 will be Alumni Board Treasurer, and Tina Eiternick-Lilly MTG Class of ’91 will continue to be Director of Alumni Relations and our connection to the everyday events of Guerin Prep. We have held regular meetings at Guerin Prep in the Dujarie Room. During the meetings, we have discussed future events, and helped to plan our current events already on the schedule.
The events that we schedule help us to actively engage the school and alumni community. These events include the Homecoming Parade and Game, The Big Event, the Alumni Memorial Mass, annual Reunions, Alumni Softball Game, Career Days, and the Golf Outing. All of these events help us to strengthen Guerin Prep as well as honor what Guerin Prep, Mother Guerin and Holy Cross High Schools have given to the collective alumni community over the years. Attendance and support for these events have been great from all three schools, but we always love to see more new faces! The Alumni Association offers all alumni the perfect opportunity to get involved and support the growth of Guerin Prep, rekindle friendships lost over time and distance, and reminisce about the wonderful days we all spent in our respective high schools.
The past few years have seen many changes for Guerin Prep and its predecessor schools; some were challenging and saddening, but so many more have been exciting and rewarding. One example of the exciting and rewarding is the newly formed Educating Women to Leadership program that is being worked on with more than two dozen Mother Guerin alumnae. The program will consist of forums on topics such a college and job interview preparation, mentoring relationships between alumnae and students on topics ranging from career paths to education/course work to navigating a co-ed educational environment, and much more.
Someone close to Guerin Prep recently said: “A school is not the building but the people who teach and the guiding principles that lead it towards it mission.” This couldn’t be more true. And now is the time and place for us as alumni to ensure that the quality Catholic education we received will always be available at the corner of Belmont and 80th. Don’t miss your chance to be involved and keep our tradition alive and strong! Always remember - as long as there is Guerin Prep, there will always be Holy Cross and Mother Guerin.
Best Regards,
William Justiz, HC ’97
