Guerin Prep, established in 2004, builds on 40 years of history created by Mother Theodore Guerin and Holy Cross high schools.

At Guerin Prep, we've been helping our students exceed their expectations for themselves for more than 40 years.
In answer to a request from the Archdiocese of Chicago, Mother Theodore Guerin High School was founded as an all-girls school in 1962 by the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. Mother Guerin provided girls on the northwest side of Chicago and surrounding suburbs a safe and supportive environment to gain a quality education. Our tradition of preparing more than 11,000 students for college and life beyond academics continues to be shared with a new generation of students.
In the Fall of 2004, we responded to another request from the Archdiocese of Chicago and began a new chapter in our history, welcoming young men who previously attended Holy Cross high school to the school for the first time. Holy Cross, founded by the Holy Cross Brothers in 1961, shared the values and traditions of Mother Guerin. The priorities for all three schools has been and continues to be providing a faith-based, academically excellent education. As a co-ed institution, Guerin Prep embraced the opportunity and challenge to become a co-ed institution with enthusiasm.
Our name became Guerin College Preparatory High School in 2004—Guerin Prep for short—to reflect both the new mission of Guerin and the ongoing tradition of preparing students for college and beyond.
What remained the same is our dedication to developing the unique potential of our diverse student body through an extensive curriculum, excellent instruction in academics and the Catholic faith, service and extracurricular programs.
