Faculty
Chua, Jordan
Mr. Jordan Chua came to Guerin College Prep in the Fall of 2009. Mr. Chua seriously began his music education in high school at The University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy. There he was involved with the vocal music program and campus ministry. After high school, Mr. Chua studied Church Music and Liturgy at Sacred Heart Major Seminary. He then continued his studies at Loyola University Chicago and completed a B.A. in Philosophy and a B.A. in Music. Mr. Chua was awarded the Walter P. Zanzoik piano scholarship during his Junior and Senior year.
Mr. Chua continued a Post-Baccalaureate program at Loyola focused on the Sciences. After his studies at Loyola, Mr. Chua pursued his Masters in Music Education at VanderCook College of Music and completed his M.M.Ed July 2009 studying choral and piano pedagogy. Mr. Chua has also earned his Illinois Teaching Certificate Type 10 with an endorsement in Music. Alongside working with Guerin Prep, Mr. Chua is also an active musician for the Archdiocese of Chicago and Diocese of Joliet. Mr. Chua is an active member of Music Educators National Conference (MENC), American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and the American Guild of Organists (AGO).
Mr. Chua is enjoying the students, faculty and environment of Guerin College Prep and hopes to continue his service here for a long time. He plans to push the piano and vocal music program to new heights during the coming years. Mr. Chua was named the Fine Arts Department Chair for the 2010-2011 academic year. Additionally, Mr. Chua is teaching Beginning Piano, Intermediate Piano, Advanced Piano-H, Chorus I, Chorus II, Intermediate Chorus, Honors Chorus-H, Schola Cantorum (Liturgical Choir), and teaching Foundations in the Theology Dept.
Mr. Chua will continue his Doctorate in Education focused on curriculum and administration and Type 75 Administrative Certificate at Loyola University Chicago.
Fitzgerald, Noreen
Ms. Fitzgerald began teaching at Mother Guerin High School in 1972. She teaches all the Family and Consumer Science classes offered. She is a graduate of Mount Mary College with a B.A. in Home Economics Education. She is a member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Science

Mackie, Kristen
Ms. Mackie, who joined the Guerin faculty in 1986, currently teaches Acting and Advanced Acting, Introduction to Theater, Dramatic Literature and Speech. Since coming to Guerin, each year Ms. Mackie has directed a fall play, a spring musical, a children’s show and coordinated student directed one-act plays. She has also taught a grade school drama class after school for fourth through eighth graders.
Additionally, Ms. Mackie has been active on the Illinois High School Theatre Festival Planning Committee serving as the Associate Director of Workshops (1990-91), Exhibits (1992) Executive Director (1993), Director Emeritus (1994), ITA Board Liason (1995-97), and Auditions (2003). Ms. Mackie directed the All-State Production of Ragtime (2005), was Technical Director for the All-State Productions of Big River (2000) & A Chorus Line (2006), and was the All-State Producer for The Wiz (1990). Guerin students have been chosen to perform at the Illinois High School Theatre Festival in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001, and 2002. Ms. Mackie has served on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Theatre Association in the positions of Secretary, Vice-President, and Secondary Education Division Chair.
Guerin students were chosen to perform at the American High School Theatre Festival in conjunction with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1997 and 2003. Guerin was the first school in Illinois to be chosen to perform at this festival.
Ms. Mackie holds a B.S. in Speech and Theatre from Bradley University and a Master of Arts in Directing from Roosevelt University. Ms. Mackie received the 2008 Award of Honor from the Illinois Theatre Association for her contributions to theatre in the state of Illinois.
Springbrunn, John
Mr. Springbrunn directs the concert band program at Guerin Prep, which consists of beginning, intermediate and symphonic bands. He also teaches AP Music Theory for Honors students and a comprehensive jazz education program that consists of one to two ensembles and instruction in improvisation.
Mr. Springbrunn joined Guerin Prep after eight years as the band director at neighboring Holy Cross High School. He is a 1974 graduate of Holy Cross. He began teaching at Holy Trinity High School in 1988, moved to Holy Cross in 1996, and then to Guerin Prep in 2004.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Northeastern University and did his graduate study at Roosevelt University and Northern Illinois University. He is a member of Phi Beta Mu, an international bandmaster’s fraternity, and currently serves as the vice-president of the Illinois chapter. Mr. Springbrunn also is active as a clinician, adjudicator, performer and composer
Susin, Thomas
After 33 years on the faculty at neighboring Holy Cross High School, Mr. Susin joined the Guerin Prep staff in the fall of 2004 and is teaching Art Fundamentals, Drawing and Design, Painting and Mixed Media, Commercial Art and Three-Demensional Art.
A 1965 alum of Holy Cross High School, Mr. Susin holds a B.A. in Fine Arts Education and a M.A. in Educational Administration and Supervision from Roosevelt University. He has put his own artistic ability at the service of the school, helping to create all the decorations for Guerin Prep’s first Homecoming dance, an activity he also was involved in while at Holy Cross. He also does the sets for the Spring musical. Mr. Susin has assorted commissions as a mural painter, mostly in private homes.
Zelm, Kathy
Ms. Zelm, who has been teaching at Guerin for 26 years, currently teaches Photo I and II along with Graphic Art. She taught at Mother Guerin High School from '74-'78 then returned in '88 to the present.
She holds a B.S. in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse, with additional graduate credits from schools in Colorado and New York. From the late ‘70s through the ‘80s, Ms Zelm worked in a professional photo lab and was a free-lance photographer working for an oil company in Denver, Colo. Her work includes photographs of workers in the oil fields in Montana, office workers in Denver and VIP parties. Her work was published in year-end Annual Reports to stockholders. After all these years she never tries taking pictures. Currently she supervises the taking of the photos that appear in the front entrance of Guerin Prep.
The department regularly sponsors field trips including outings to the Art Institute, plays and music performances. “At School Field Trips” have included the Raku workshop for Ceramics II.
Theatre Trips have included New York and Scotland. Drama students participate in the Illinois High School Theatre Festival. The music department sponsors both a touring choir and a liturgical choir. Additionally, the concert and jazz bands participate in contests and festivals, locally and across the country throughout the year.
Club activities within the Fine Arts Department include the Art Club, the National Art Honor Society, the International Thespian Society and the Tri-M (Music Society).
In the theatre area, Guerin Prep offers a Fall Play, a Spring Musical, a Children's Show and an evening of One Act Plays under student direction.
The art area hosts the Emerging Artist Invitational for 7th and 8th grade students and a Spring Student Art Show. The theatre area sponsors an After School Theatre Program for 4th - 8th grade students.
Recent improvements to the Fine Arts area have included a new computer lab utilizing Adobe Photoshop and Advanced Placement Art Studio. New enlargers are now available for Photography and two new potter's wheels for Ceramics. Guerin Prep has a fully equipped 1250-seat theatre.
